It is a classical means of parapsychological research to make some information hidden and have a subject trying to guess that information. It has been used by pioneers such as Rhine, Tart and others. In physics, the well known paradox of Schroedinger’s cat suggests that the acquisition of information could have consequences on the macroscopic level. By proposing the PsyBox we want to extend this simple idea and make it available to every one, professional researchers as well as hobbyists in parapsychology. PsyBox is a new electronic device based on an old idea in order to make parapsychological experimentation easier.
A help in individual experimentation
The box has two screens, one is internal and is not easy to examine, the other is external and has the purpose of managing the chosen programs. Once a program is started the user turns the external screen off and can manipulate the box without seeing the content displayed on the inner screen.
As the box’s content can only be seen from a certain point of view, the agent can for example test Out of Body Experiences (OBE).
This content can also be delayed until a certain moment in the future, so the box lets also the user experiment with precognition.
The variety of images is basically limited to a few hundreds among the following sets: astrology, geometry, symbols, tarrot, yi-king, and zener. There’s an additional directory for the user to put his contents. The PsyBox has audio and video capacities not implemented in the original product that can be developed on demand.
In this perspective the box can also be a help in testing telepathy, since the content on which the agent will concentrate for a percipient will not be taken in the conceptual background of the experimenters.
Additionally, the box is equipped with an infrared webcam in front. A video can be started when the experiment begins in order to prove the fair play of the investigation.
A tool for network experimentation
Apart from the individual scope just briefly described the PsyBox has the ability to connect to the Internet and contact other devices equipped with the same open source software. Thus Network Parapsychological Experiences (NPE) can be run. In order to achieve this we have gifted the box with 2 independant processors connected through i2c. So one PsyBox can programmatically interfere with the content of another.
We deliver the PsyBox that we sell with a first network experiment called NPE1 that has the purpose of evaluating the relation between telepathy and remote viewing. This experiment can be run with various chosen participants at least equipped with a PC, or preferably a Psybox, and at least one PsyBox has to run as server. See the brief description of NPE1 above.
A high quality, modular, scalable device
As a piece of open hardware, the PsyBox is proud to make use of the best processors in this field: Raspberry Pi2 and Arduino Mega. The first one is primarily dedicated to network activity while the second is in charge of the two screens, but both can receive a whole lot of new plug and plays like sensors, gps etc and generate data sources for special needs like Ganzfeld experiments. The original program using less than half of its memory, the box can be customized and turned to a very specialized tool. This instrument is fully programmable and re-programmable.
Who we are and what we want
emilbarton is a small team located in France near Geneva. We handle the complete factory and configuration of the open source PsyBox. We sell this unique product and can configure it for special scientific needs (installation of sensors, programming of new experimental protocols).
